I have not done many portraits during my time as an artist. I feel that the pressure to make the art look like the subject is too high. I like to alter them a bit. Sometimes I make them more extreme. Sometimes I add ten years to the person’s age. Sometimes I make them into their ideal person, and sometimes I point out all the small details, including the less desirable ones. I used to avoid self portraits or any portraits at all, but I think that I can build my relationship with them, person by person, starting with me.
