BLACK & WHITE

Black and white linework has always held a sense of security for me. There is an intricate simplicity in the fine lines of a pencil or a pen that somehow allow clearer expressiveness that can often be lost in interpretation when using color or by adding more detail. I have adopted a blind contour-Esque form of mark-making that has slowly developed into an illustrative, detailed theme, and then from there, into loose-handed moving forms. Black and white was where I started as an artist, using ballpoint pens and yellow 2-B pencils. If I ever feel lost or have a creative block, I can always rely on the good ‘ol black and white in my back pocket to get the job done.
